Tongariro Alpine Crossing

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing aka Mordor from Lord of the Rings, is a very popular day hike. In cold and windy weather I pushed through a landscape of active volcanoes, emerald lakes and steaming craters, completing the 21km in 4 1/2 hours only to sprain my ankle on the last 300 meters. Jan 9, 2023
